Anita Purves Nature Center is slowly coming back online for visitors as Illinois moves through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Busey Woods is open for hikers, but please practice social distancing,” said Judy Miller, Environmental Program Manager. “Many of our activities inside the nature center are high-touch activities at close quarters, so we have to make sure everything is safe.”

Staff are refreshing exhibits and procedures at the nature center to apply best practices in safety in relation to COVID-19.

Starting October 1, the following areas and programs will be available by appointment only.

  • The Field Station
  • Wildlife Observation Room
  • Nature Store

“The educator resources are suspended at the moment. We will offer those resources again when it is safe to do so,” Miller explained.

Follow Anita Purves Nature Center on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the latest news and information about what is offered.

“We miss interacting with the public and teaching them about nature and the environment,” Miller said. “Please call us at (217) 384 – 4062 starting on October 1, to set up an appointment to come see us.”
