Power Line Tree Work starts Nov 20

Beginning on Monday, November 20, work crews from Ameren Illinois will clear trees, shrubs and brush to the south of the Race Street entrance to Meadowbrook Park. The area beneath the power lines has become overgrown and is being cleared for safety.

A portion of the concrete path close to Race Street will be blocked to pedestrians during the work and flaggers will manage vehicular traffic. Signs will direct visitors to alternate walking routes while work is underway.

Ameren has provided a grant to the Urbana Park District for tree replacement in the work area. Next spring the district will replant with short stature trees suitable for underneath power lines. The addition of these smaller species will complement the other smaller trees already on display in the adjacent Timpone Ornamental Tree Grove.

This work is weather dependent and may take up to three days to complete that portion of the work that requires path closure. Questions can be directed to the Urbana Park District Planning and Operations office at 217-344-9583.
