Urbana Park District is promoting Facebook Live Connecting You With Nature hikes this fall.

Anita Purves Nature Center staff will lead the virtual hikes on Facebook. The hikes will run from 5:50 – 6:30 p.m., in the park district's natural areas.

  • Weaver Park – October 7
  • Meadowbrook Park – October 21
  • Perkins Road Wet Prairie – November 4

“These virtual hikes will allow people to remotely explore district natural areas, some of which they have maybe never visited in person,” said Savannah Donovan, Environmental Public Program Coordinator. She continued, “We hope to encourage more people to experience these locations in person after attending the virtual tour.”

Staff will point out different species in each area – both invasive and natural species. “We'll also talk about the local history of how each area became a nature preserve,” Donovan added.

People can interact with staff and ask questions about the natural areas.

“We'll also take time to listen and look closely at the natural surroundings, in hopes that viewers will come away feeling relaxed and revived, as though they had spent that time directly in nature,” Donovan said.

Be sure to follow the Anita Purves Nature Center on Facebook and be ready to enjoy great nature hikes this fall.
