Teenagers can sign up for a free, virtual painting class. Local artist Paula McCarty will teach the class.

The class will be October 10, from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Students will create a natural landscape painting.

Kids don't need to be expert painters to take the class. "I will provide delivery for those in Urbana or Champaign. Non-residents can pick theirs up at the Phillips Recreation Center. All materials will be provided," said Chelsea Prahl, Environmental Education Coordinator.

Students can interact with the McCarty during the lesson. "The class will begin with a short lesson and will be interactive throughout the painting process," Prahl explained.

Why a teen virtual painting class? Prahl explained, "The Urbana Park District facilitates programs with teens throughout the year and we miss connecting with them through after school programs and during summer camp. This is a way to stay engaged, virtually."

People can sign up for the free painting class online or call the park district at (217) 367-1544.

"We hope to see registration fill up for this awesome program," Prahl commented.
