Urbana Park District encourages youth ages 12-15, that have completed 7th grade, to join the Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program and experience summer camp through a hands-on leadership role.
"CITs bring their own energy and talents to the camp program," said Chelsea Prahl, Environmental Education Coordinator who oversees the program.
"The CITs assist at Urbana Park District camps for 15-20 hours a week, three days a week," Prahl added.
"CITs support camp leaders with daily camper activities and attend weekly meetings centered around self-made goals and objectives to develop and grow skills throughout the summer," Prahl explained.
It costs $360 to participate in the CIT program for the duration of camp season. Registration fees are due after acceptance into the program.
The deadline to apply is March 13. "We will interview candidates for a limited number of positions," Prahl said.
CIT applications are available at any park district facility. Or, a fillable application is available for download at urbanaparks.org.
If parents or students have more questions about the CIT program, they can call Chelsea Prahl at (217) 384-4062.
"This training program provides a unique opportunity for youth to set personal and professional goals, practice valuable skills, and act as role models to young campers," Prahl said. "We are looking forward to another great summer."
