Urbana Park District officially broke ground Saturday for the new Health and Wellness Facility on East Washington Street, between the Brookens Center and Preston Williams Elementary.
This is the largest construction project in the history of the park district. Private donations, state grants and local grants will pay for the building.
City, county and state officials joined the Urbana Parks Foundation, the park district Board of Commissioners and members of the public to take the ceremonial first scoops of dirt.
The new building should be complete in late 2024.
