Urbana Park District needs you to help plan for the future

The Urbana Park District is looking for 60 individuals to help form a strategic plan for the next five years.

These focus groups will meet this spring at Urbana Park District. For their time, participants will receive a $20 gift card to Meijer, aluminum water bottle, reusable tote and other Urbana Park District swag.

Last year, the Park District gathered public input on future goals for the strategic plan. “Nearly 350 people completed the strategic plan questionnaire! We have taken those comments, and we’re now looking for volunteers to help us digest those comments,” said Kara Dudek, Park Planner.

The Park District is forming its five-year strategic plan around four pillars:

  • Health and Wellness – The Urbana Park District’s commitment to providing recreational options for a variety of health benefits.
  • You Belong Here – create welcoming and supportive recreation opportunities for all.
  • Placemaking – design and creation of vibrant and usable spaces which inspire health and recreation.
  • Trails and Connectivity – establish safe recreational paths within parks and viable connections between parks and facilities

“It is an ambitious strategic plan. And, once complete, this plan will not gather dust. The Park District will follow this plan to serve the people of Urbana,” Dudek added.

People can sign up online or call 217-390-5857 to be on a strategic plan focus group. If they have questions about the focus groups, they can call Dudek at 217-344-9583 or kadudek@urbanaparks.org.

“We really need the public to help us round out our planning process,” Dudek said.

“People belong at Urbana Park District and people belong at the table as we plan for the future.”
