Urbana Park District open house welcomes all

As part of the community's Welcoming Week, Urbana Park District will host an open house at Phillips Recreation Center, 505 W. Stoughton, on Wednesday, September 19, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

"Many people come from overseas at the start of every school year," explained Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Manager. "We want them to know they belong in this community and they belong at Urbana Park District."

The open house is free and people will be able to find out more about health, wellness, athletic, educational, environmental and community programs at the Park District.

"We will have our Spanish-language interpreter available to speak to families. We are excited to let people know there is something at the Park District for them, no matter their interest," Hedgspeth said.

The Park District will offer free lemonade and cookies. Staff will demonstrate programs, and there will be crafts, activities and a photo show.

"Everyone belongs at Urbana Park District and we look forward to meeting the public on September 19," Hedgspeth concluded.
