Workshop offers tips on how to get the most out of your garden

Do you know that you can plant vegetables all through the spring and summer? The Urbana Park District is hosting a workshop called “Extending the Growing Season.”

The workshop is July 17, from 6:30 – 8 p.m., at the Meadowbrook Interpretive Center off the Race Street entrance.

“Gardener Sara Johnson is going to teach how to get the most out of your garden by planting successive sowings of your favorite vegetables,” said Chelsea Prahl, Environmental Education Coordinator.

She added, “You’ll also learn how to plant companion plants in your garden to minimize pests and disease. Bring seeds, plants and questions to the workshop.”

You have until July 10 to register. The workshop costs $10 for residents and $15 dollars for non-residents. If people register before July 3, they get special early bird rates. Call (217) 367-1544 to register, or online at UrbanaParks.org.

“Gardening is a relaxing and fun activity and we want all gardens to be a success. We have limited space for this workshop, so be sure to register now for a great workshop on growing a better garden,” Prahl concluded.
