Music and a love of biking highlight Weaver Park celebration

The Urbana Park District kicked off the unofficial start to the summer biking season at Weaver Park, Wednesday night.

Several bike vendors met with the public to discuss bike safety, technology, and apparel. The local AMBUCS chapter presented a specially-built AmTryke, a therapeutic tricycle, to a local family (see below). AmTrykes are custom built by AMBUCS to help kids and adults with disabilities.

During the celebration, Dragon Fire provided pizza and Riders of the Golden Maize provided the musical entertainment.

“Biking is an important part of our mission at Urbana Park District,” said Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Coordinator. “Biking promotes physical and mental wellness and anything we can do to get more people biking, the better for the community.”

Hedgspeth concluded, “We hope many people come to Weaver Park this summer and unload their bikes and ride the Kickapoo Rail Trail. The Park District challenges everyone to use ‘pedal power’ this summer!”
