Park District to prune and remove trees for safety

Urbana Park District will remove trees and prune others at Carle Park and Busey Woods over the next several weeks.

"Urbana Park District staff will be removing a pair of dying and hazardous trees in Carle Park," said Rich McMahon, Grounds Supervisor at Urbana Park District.  "We will also prune dead wood from some diseased trees. Pruning will help extend the trees' life."

McMahon continued, "These trees were previously diagnosed with bacterial leaf scorch and will continued to be monitored for as long as they can be safely cared for."

In Busey Woods, Ameren will remove dead ash trees. "Ameren tree crews will be removing dead ash trees that have been impacted by emerald ash borer," McMahon said. The trees are along the Ameren power line right of way.

"During this time, portions of the trail system will closed.  People should avoid the work areas one’s safety," McMahon explained.

Once the trees are removed, the Park District will plant replacement trees at both Carle Park and Busey Woods, as part of their ongoing tree planting program.

If people have questions about the tree removal and pruning, please call Urbana Park District at 217-344-9583.
