Earlier this growing season, workers planted native plants at the Weaver Park natural area, after people riding ATVs damaged the park last fall.

An Illinois American Water grant of $920. A separate, local $1200 donation from Illinois American Water helped create an interpretive panel to educate the public about the wetlands.

There should only be foot traffic visiting Weaver Park. “It is illegal to ride ATVs through our parks,” said Derek Liebert, Superintendent of Planning and Operations.

Weaver Park is a natural area where people can walk trails and observe and enjoy wildlife. Motorized vehicles create ruts, destroy the park and disturb wildlife.

"We thank Illinois American Water for helping us restore Weaver Park," Liebert said. He added, "Everyone is welcome to come to the park and enjoy this natural area in an urban setting."
